Afghan Planning Agency (APA) is an indigenous Afghan non-governmental, non-political and non-profitable organization rendering humanitarian assistance to the people of war-torn Afghanistan. In July 1990, APA was registered as an implementation counterpart of the United Nation agencies in rehabilitation and reconstruction work in Afghanistan. APA has been implementing many projects in the field of survey & monitoring, training, education, women empowerment, protection, irrigation, road rehabilitation, construction, agriculture, handling emergency situations, food security/supporting program, non-food item distribution, quick impact projects, shelter program, and especially community mobilization and need assessment in almost 24 provinces of Central, East, South, Southeast, and Western regions of Afghanistan. APA has its own structure of organization through which the agency carries out different activities. APA has the responsibility of implementing, monitoring, supervising and evaluating the project. Monitoring will be carried out on regular basis through project coordinators and its associated staff in the field including the related government directorate and donor agency.

APA Mandate:

  • To increase the effectiveness of humanitarian response programs
  • To educate both female and male in the society by providing basic training and practical learning
  • To contribute in uplifting the status of women in the society and to empower female entrepreneurial status in the society
  • To provide vocational training programs within the country
  • To help and generate training of self-employment program for women, educate unemployed people, provide education for illiterate and semi-literate
  • To create the means for providing medical assistance to the people suffering from diseases, especially for people who do not have access to basic health services
  • To provide basic education programs for females who could not pursue their studies due to strict and anti-women regimes 
  • To propagate the need for tree plantation, pollution control, and environmental awareness
  • To provide help under health and nutrition services for women and children
  • To provide potable water facilities to the needy communities 
  • To create training/education center and health center
  • To provide help/shelter/facilities for displaced people, children, and disabled persons for their welfare
